Jonathan's genius for using other people's ideas as his own, or improving
upon them soon has him on the road to success with his own producing unit.
He plans for "bigger and better" pictures with Academy Awards in the
offing. His fiendship for Fred, who aided him in the beginning, is almost
forgotten.
Jonathan Shields (Kirk Douglas), son of a film pioneer noted for his genius and
ruthlessness, promises to follow in the foot-steps of his father in the film
industry, although he has a small beginning as a slate boy in a cameraman's unit.
Meeting Fred Amiel (Barry Sullivan) would-be director, who helps support him,
Jonathan's nerve, and Fred's brains, soon find the young man on his way.
Jonathan (Kirk Douglas) supervising the filming from his place beside the camera,
watches the dramatic performance of Georgia (Lana Turner) and Victor Riviera
(Gilbert Roland). The girl is unaware of the fact that the producer is merely using her
love to make her a better actress and is already turning his affections elsewhere.
Lana Turner and Director Vincente Minnelli listen while MGM Fashion Designer Helen Rose
explains about Miss Turner's latest gown for "The bad and the Beautiful".
